Two clarifications worth making, because both are frequently misread.

First, 166% does not mean everyone owns 1.66 phones. Mobile connections include work SIMs, travel eSIMs, tablets, mobile broadband dongles and connected devices. It is a measure of connections, not people.

Second, “broadband-capable” is not the same as “uses mobile data.” Some of those connections are voice and SMS plans. DataReportal is explicit about this caveat, and it is a distinction most trend articles quietly drop.
